For me, fashion is a way to express myself; it is a language. And, as a part of a new generation that has chosen to work in this field, I feel obligated to make a difference and promote a more sustainable way of creating.

Through my work, I want to show my respect for the Australian land and aboriginal culture as an international student. After an in-depth understanding of the region's history, I was fascinated by the indigenous culture and the people who live here, and I felt more connected to the land. I am pleased to be able to study what I am passionate about in such a beautiful country. In my culture, respect and manners are very important, and as an outlander, I intend to show my respect and appreciation for this land and culture through my creation.

I have a strong interest in French embroidery and background in textiles and fashion technology; I believe that by pursuing further education, I will be able to combine my passions and knowledge to create sustainable fashion. I aim to connect people from different cultures through the medium of fashion. I am going to devote all of my love for the fashion industry to achieving my goals.

I, Haibei Chen, would like to respectfully acknowledge that I live and study on land traditionally owned by the Wurundjeri people of the Woiworung and Boonwurrung language groups in the Kulin Nations. I would also like to pay my respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, as well as the Kulin nation's past and present Elders and ancestors.

As an international student, I will always appreciate the opportunities I have had to learn in this generous nation. I will continue to show my respect to all Australian Indigenous people. I appreciate their ongoing connections to the land of this beautiful region and recognize their sovereignty was never ceded.
